Sumqayıt, formerly Sumgait, city, eastern Azerbaijan. Sumqayıt lies at the mouth of the Sumqayıt River as it enters the Caspian Sea, on the northern side of the Abşeron Peninsula. Sumgayit is 40 km away from the capital of Azerbaijan, Baku and only 1 University exist in Sumgayit which is Sumgayit State University
